Congratulations to Rebecca Sorgiovanni, who was named winner of the "Unsung Hero (Electronic Security Sector)" category, and to Wesley Wyatt who led a significant Sunshine Coast Airport CCTV upgrade project to be named co-winner of the "Integrated Security Solution (under $500,000)" category at the 2025 Australian Security Industry Awards!

The awards, hosted by the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL), the security sector's peak industry body, took place at a glittering gala dinner event last Thursday evening at the Park Hyatt Melbourne.

Rebecca was recognised for her role as Group Corporate Services Development Manager in which her strong work ethic and ability to master complex corporate management initiatives with proficiency, as well as a passion for connecting with people, led to high quality outcomes.

Rebecca played a leading role in the roll-out of a new Group-wide Corporate Services function, a major undertaking across seven Australian states and territories and New Zealand. “The implementation and roll out of Corporate Services in the Group was an unprecedented and significant undertaking – it had never before been attempted in the business," said Group Corporate Services Manager Stuart Norton-Baker.

"This was a massive endeavour that required the whole business to acclimatise to new ways of doing things, new levels of accountability, and new timelines," he said. "Rebecca’s work – and the way she went about her work – ensured optimal acceptance and compliance with this new regime."

The Sunshine Coast Airport IndigoVision to Avigilon Unity project led by Wes had innovation at its core, from the selection of solution partners to the centralisation of contract documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

According to the customer: “Optic Security group were tasked with undertaking a major VMS transition, utilising existing hardware and infrastructure. The project included introducing AI technology to the business and saw major obstacles with existing infrastructure."

“The Optic team showed their expertise in security technology and their tenacity to bring the new VMS and all its capabilities online, set up appropriately to effectively support safety and security outcomes at Sunshine Coast Airport... The efficacy of the projects and strong relationship developed by Optic Security Group are a true testament to the culture and excellence within Optic Security Group as a business.”

"We at Optic are very proud of Rebecca and Wes and their industry achievements," said Managing Director Mike Cunningham. "While all staff at Optic Security continue to serve our customers to exemplary standards, it is truly wonderful to see the industry recognise and reward such efforts."

Joining Rebecca and Wes for the celebrations at the security industry's night of nights were Optic Security Group COO Geoff Sondergeld, Group Sales Director Mark Lloyd, Chief Security Officer Grant McKechnie, Group Brand Strategy & Innovation Director Nicholas Dynon, Queensland Operations Manager Bernie Shiel, and Product Innovation Manager Vlado Damjanovski.

Optic Security Group wishes to congratulate all nominees, finalists, and winners at this year’s Australian Security Industry Awards, and we thank the event sponsors and ASIAL for staging this important opportunity to celebrate excellence in Australia's security industry.

Lastly, a very big thank you to Sunshine Coast Airport for providing us the opportunity to work with them and their talented team, for their support, and for enabling and recognising a job well done.
