Reflections on 2021: Trust underpins Optic's continued growth

It’s been a massive year at Optic Security Group, and with just a couple of weeks to go until 2022 it’s an opportune time to pause and reflect on what a rewarding year it’s been!

We have recently secured long-term capital to support our projected growth in all regions of Australia and New Zealand, which is just as well given the growth journey we’re currently on! During 2021 we’ve had the absolute privilege of welcoming new clients across a broad range of sectors, from national telecommunications who keep us connected to healthcare providers who are there when we are at our most vulnerable, to international food and beverage companies that households across Australia and New Zealand rely on every mealtime.

We’ve also continued to deliver enterprise security risk management services and solutions to our existing client partners across the length and breadth of Australasia. We’re proud of our team’s efforts in continuing the great Optic tradition of ensuring the security of some of the region’s most critical infrastructure remains fit-for-purpose and future-focused, from air and sea ports, to public transport systems, to law enforcement, emergency services, local councils and a range of national government agencies.

The icing on the cake, of course, is when our team’s efforts are recognised by others. We were thrilled when Optic’s Lee Ashton was awarded the New Zealand Security Awards Design and Support Electronic Sector Professional of the Year, and Ravi Lal took out Install & Service Electronic Sector (Corporate) Technician of the Year. We’re super proud of Lee and Ravi, while acknowledging that they represent the calibre of professionalism possessed right across the Optic Group.

This is perhaps best evidenced by the team accolades we’ve received during the year, including being listed as one of APAC CIO Outlook’s Top Ten Cyber Security Companies for 2021, and recognition as the 2021 Top Government Partner for both Australia and New Zealand in the AXIS Communications Oceania Partner Awards. These are testament to the skills and commitment to quality of each and every member of the trans-Tasman Optic team.

But ultimately, what we have found most rewarding during 2021 is that our clients continue to entrust us to protect their people, information, assets, and reputations. It is a level of trust that carries with it great responsibility, and it is a responsibility that we never take for granted, whether it’s installing carpark CCTV cameras to protect health workers walking to their vehicles at end of shift, upgrading access control systems for a client to provide contactless entry, or delivering security enhancements to Managed Isolation and Quarantine sites and other facilities as part of national responses to Covid-19.

Above all, this is an opportunity for us to say a big ‘thank you’ to the entire Optic family, from our clients to our channel partners, to our technical and administrative teams, to our suppliers. Thank you for your continuing trust and thank you for an amazing 2021 in all states of Australia and across the North and South Islands of New Zealand! We’re looking forward to a sensational 2022 and wish you all the very best in the New Year and beyond.

Security Advisory

Be vigilant. There has been an increase in reports of false billing scams. If you have received an email with an invoice purporting to be from us, call your Optic Security Group contact person to confirm if it is legitimate. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s National Anti-Scam Centre has reported a 25% increase in losses incurred by Australians from false billing scams in the July-September 2023 quarter compared to the same period last year. This is despite an overall 16% decrease in losses across scam categories.

Payment redirection scams are the most prevalent type of false billing scams. These involve scammers impersonating a business or its employees via email and requesting that money, which usually is owed to the legitimate business, is paid into a fraudulent account. For further information, visit the National Anti-Scam Centre website at https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/.

Optic Security Group will never advise a change of bank details via email. If you have received an email with an invoice purporting to be from us, call your Optic Security Group contact to confirm if it is legitimate.
